The Island
You are about to travel to a remote island, where the life is still simple still. There might be an abundance of sun, water and white sandy beaches , stunning sunsets and colourfully fish in the water, …. but some things are different ….
On Mantanani island we have NOT :
ATM, banks, supermarkets, shopping mall, airport, public transport, paved roads, motorbikes to rent, island-wide internet or reliable mobil phone connection. Also, Unfortunately no common waste management system, please, avoid to add plastic. Soft drinks are available in small local shops, in this way you support local businesses.
It’s a Moslem community, alcoholic drinks are available in few hotels only.
Food & Meals
Breakfast is included in the accommodation price European style
Lunch and dinner are optional , you can decide every day.
No menu, home cooked food eurasian mix, served in family style.
Travel Information
Mantanani is located 35 km offshore of mainland Sabah , ca 20km from the northern town of Kota Belud.
Land travel can be pre-booked with us or you travel on your own.
There is no public ferry available and we charter seats in one of the tourists boats on demand basis. All boat transport follows the schedule of day tourist operators and CANNOT be changed, please understand. Boat transfer booking is obligatory through us. Costs are not included in the accommodation price.
On arrival day:
07.00 AM morning pick up from any hotel in Kota Kinabalu town area.
2 hours land transport to one of the jetty places at Rampayan Laut.
You may drive yourself eventually, please start at the same time.
09.00 AM boarding boat, approximately 50 min boats ride.
The boat will usually arrive around 200 meter from the Lodge.
If you think, you need a small transport boat or a porter for you or your luggage, please let us know in upfront to inform you about the cost.
On departure day:
Boat departs around 2.30 PM from the island.
If you book land transfer with us ,your minibus or taxi is waiting at the mainland jetty and you will
arrive back in Kota Kinabalu approximately 7.00 PM (check your flights!).
Dietary Restrictions
We would also appreciate if you let us know if you or your travel partners have any allergies or food restrictions.
Food supply for the island is limited and needs to be catered from mainland. To serve for special requests, our kitchen has limited capacities only
We are very sorry, we are NOT able to host guests with following dietary restrictions:
Food allergies e.g. nut allergy etc., vegan, gluten-, wheat-, lactose -, fat intolerance, salicylates, amines, FODMAPs, high histamine foods, sulphite and food preservatives, sucrose.
Vegetarians are no issue, please specify what kind of vegetarian.
Children and Safety
Children older than 4 years are welcome.
Safety: All activities of you and of children on water and land are on your own risk. Guest will staying in full responsibility for the safety of your children of any age at any time.
We will provide a bed/ sofa-bed for the child, independent from your use. The lodge is charging MYR 100 for every child (4-12y).
The GreenHouse EcoLodge is not operating a life guard at the beach. There are places on the island which might be a potential danger for children.
Payments
To optimise the bookings, we would like to ask you to pay the accommodation cost in upfront.. We recommend transfer (in Euro or MYR or GBP or AUD) by WISE, transfer in Euro to a European account or bank transfer in MYR to our Malaysian Account. The accounts are under the owners name owner and Aquaculture Asia C. Is the management company for the GreenHouse EcoLodge.
Payments for transport services diving and snorkelling on a tourist boat are in cash only payable at the lodge.
All other services can be paid cash, bank transfer or credit card (Visa) on departure day at the lodge.
